Australia Day at Nundle
Location: Nundle, NSW
At our Nundle Australia Day celebration this year, we are delighted to have Father Chris Riley as our Nundle Australia Day Ambassador. Father Chris would be a wonderful ambassador at any major capital city celebration across the country, but he has chosen to come to Nundle for Australia Day.
Father Chris Riley has dedicated his life to helping others. He founded ‘Youth Off The Streets’ in 1991 to deliver meals to young homeless people in Kings Cross. Today it is a major agency assisting young people aged 12 to 21 who are homeless, face drug and alcohol dependency, exclusion from school, neglect and abuse. Father Chris estimates the organisation has helped over 50,000 young people with accommodation, education, psychological services and drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Chris continues to help disadvantaged Australians with selfless dedication, respect and good humour.
If you would like to be inspired this Australia Day, we would love to see you in Nundle to hear about Father Chris’s wonderful work. Starting at 8:00AM for a bacon & egg sandwich and a cup of tea, you will also see sheep shearing and a few songs by Nundle local Jeff “Gibbo” Gibson before the official ceremony starts at 9:00AM.
Nundle’s Australia Day festivities are a great way to end the Tamworth Country Music Festival and many visitors call into Nundle on their way home.
Later in the day The Peel Inn offers a laid back country pub atmosphere and grapevine covered courtyard, recently voted among the best beer gardens in Australia, and the live music program below:
